Knitting and Crocheting Group Drop-In Sessions
Drop-in for an hour of knitting and crocheting in the second floor meeting room from 7 - 8 pm. Bring your own supplies, as the library has a limited amount available. No registration necessary. All ages and skill levels are welcome on Thursdays, January 14, February 11 and March 11.
Knit or Crochet for Charity
We now have a Warm Up America bin in the library. You can help make a difference in our community by knitting or crocheting (7”x9”) rectangle sections. Then, drop your finished rectangles into the bin. Warm Up America Volunteers will sew them into full afghans and distribute them to area shelters, nursing homes, children’s hospitals, or to others in need. Warm Up America is a nationwide organization locally hosted by the Redford Suburban League. Want to know more? Please visit www.warmupamerica.org, or call Reva at (313) 537-0235.

Redford Recreational Readers
If you're a reader who would like an opportunity to discuss books with others, join the Redford Recreational Readers, our book discussion group for adults. We will be meeting the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 pm, in one of the 2nd floor meeting rooms. Each month you'll have an opportunity to meet fellow book lovers, share in group discussion of a selected book and suggest titles for future discussions.
Registration is not required, but the library has limited copies of each book. If you sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk, we'll make every effort to obtain a copy for you from another library.
Our current book discussion titles:
January 13: Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B. Ross [also available in Book on Tape]
Recently widowed and newly wealthy, Miss Julia is visited one day by Hazel Marie, who claims that her nine-year-old son is the child of Julia's late husband, and when Julia is left to care for the child, she reveals the scandal that precipitated her husband's death.
February 10: The Tortilla Curtain by T. Coraghessan Boyle
The story of illegal aliens in California, told through the eyes of two very different couples, one well-off Anglos, the other illegal Mexicans living in a canyon. The novel chronicles their relationship against the background of growing hostility between immigrants and natives.
March 10: Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay [available in Hardcover, Paperback and Book on CD]
On the sixtieth anniversary of the 1942 roundup of Jews by the French police in the Vel d'Hiv section of Paris, American journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article on this dark episode during World War II and embarks on an investigation that leads her to long-hidden family secrets and to the ordeal of Sarah, a young girl caught up in the raid.
